Youth of modern Kochi are Digital Natives
Tata Consultancy Services conducted a survey on India’s school children and came to a conclusion that the students of modern India will be shaping the nation in future. Web 2.0 Generation survey is among the largest youth surveys in India. What describes the students of Kochi – digital world natives? In the survey Kochi was highlighted as a city where students have become true digital natives and are shifting their academic and social life online. Kochi ranked top in five categories in Web 2.0 Generation survey. Around 65% of the students in Kochi are accessing the internet from cyber cafes. And only 14% of students in Kochi prefer library usage which is the highest among all the cities that were surveyed. Kochi youth like to travel and work overseas. Also they prefer developing new skills while choosing their career.
Urban school children in the metros and mini-metros are active online and have the technology at hand to access information. Over 80% of them make use of mobile phones and find time for the internet. There is also a high awareness of social networking among students. As per the survey, next generation students can be classified as globetrotter, gadgetphile, a nation builder and a social networker. The web 2.0 generation will shape the next phase of India’s growth and success. Youth of today are much aware of what they want in life.
