techCommunication System in Kochi will undergo a paradigm shift with the launch of wireless broadband connectivity through WiMax technology. IT and education sectors in Kochi will soon benefit from WiMax technology. Within the next few months, the WiMax technology will be used in each telecom circle. WiMax technology would be beneficial for the growing IT sector in the city. This would enable each operator in the telecom circle to serve 15 to 20 million subscribers with good quality service.

Faster communication is a pre-requisite for the IT sector. Roll out of WiMax in a city like Kochi will be a blessing for the IT sector. The launch of WiMax technology would change the work culture and even housewives would be able to work from home as call centre operators. As of now, we are lagging behind countries like China and Malaysia in WiMax technology. We need to be competent in this global world. These are not my words. These are the views of an official, to which even i agree too.

  1. wimax is already being used by TATA in Cochin, refer http://www.cochinsquare.com/wimax-in-cochin/

But acc. to their sales rep. it seems the only advantage of wimax is that its wireless till your home, making it safe from outages due to wire cuts and rainy times. . . .

Wi-Max is a platform  to carry internet to the last mile. While you have various options for your last mile connectivity, like Radio captivity, Copper wired, Fibre Optics, V-Sat etc..  In a laymans language,  Wi-Max technology is one of those techonologies that is totally decentralised as it catches its connection from the nearest user point, not from the NOC (Network operations Centre) to your last mile destination.  Its a point to multi point link-not a point to point link as in the case of other methods..So it has its own advantages and also so many disadvantages ! I am a tried user of Wi-Max and it was not suitable for my own typical use where a 0.001% Request Time out, could fall FATAL for my operations.  So there cannot be a separate charge for WIMAX technology. WIMAX in india at present is not any way better than a Wired FIBER OBPTIC last mile LINE, or Copper last mile..  Thats my experience with the leased lines so far and I am in this field for the last 5 years. May be things will improve with many players opting for WIMAX and more sophisticated equipments for connectivity…
