The fifth edition of thrissur International film festival (TIFF-2010) will be held at Ramanilayam Complex starting from September 2nd to September 8th. 75 films from 17 countries will be screened in this event. The week-long fete will celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore by screening Satyajit Ray’s ‘Charulata’, based on the Nobel laureate’s story, ‘Nastanirh’ (The broken nest).

The festival will focus on Hungarian and Mexican cinema. The package from Hungary includes ‘Esther’s Inheritance’ (director: Sándor Márai), ‘Panic’ (Attila Till), ‘The Investigator’ (Attila Gigor), ‘Tranquility’ (Alföldi Róbert), ‘Last Supper at the Arabian Gray Horse’ (Miklos Jancso).

The Mexican films to be screened include ‘Abel’ (Diego Luna), ‘To the Sea’ (Pedro González-Rubio), ‘Northless’ (Rigoberto Perezcano), ‘Love, Pain and Vice Versa’ (Alfonso Pineda Ulloa) and ‘Spiral’ (Jorge Perez Solano). Selected works of German director Alexander Kluge, French New Wave pioneer Eric Rohmer, and German experimental auteur Werner Schroeter, will be screened in the festival.

The festival will pay tribute to Portuguese writer Jose Saramago by screening ‘Blindness’, a film based on his novel.A special package of films will be presented to observe the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
