A film preview on the award winning UK Environment Film Fellowships(UKEFF) 2010 is being held at Durbar Hall, Casino Hotel in Kochi at 4 pm. This is organized by British Council with regards to World Environment Day(June 5th).

Five movies, Wheeling in Change, Notes from a green city, Blocks of Green, Melting Paradise, The Miracle Water Village,  were chosen to be screened for the event. ‘Solutions for Climate Change challenges‘ is the central theme, which can also be viewed at National Geographic Channel on the same day at 10pm.This initiative is done in different other parts of the country like Tamil Nadu, Bangalore, etc.

Wheeling in Change


Director–Nina Subramani

The film focuses on the small changes being brought about by the residents of Bangalore to mitigate emissions with a special focus on lifestyle changes. The film aims at motivating viewers on being the change themselves.

Notes from a Green City


Director – Madhyama Subramanian

The film looks at how the city of Surat is taking various measures to mitigate climate change and how these successful changes made by the Surat Municipal Corporation can be used a model for other cities to reduce their emissions.

Blocks of Green


Director- Bishnu Dev Halder(above) & Jitendra Adappa

The film explores how simple steps can make existing buildings more green. It looks at a few case studies of old buildings that have gone green in Mumbai and have reduced their carbon emissions and how new and upcoming buildings in Kolkata are constructed with a green agenda. The film looks at the obstacles, costs and benefits and also meets the suppliers of green technologies.

Melting Paradise


Directors – Vijay Bedi & Ajay Bedi

The film focuses on the glaciers & wetlands of J&K. The film focuses on the valley’s only fresh water sources, the Kolahoi glacier, and further downstream on the wetlands and conveys why the conservation of water resources are an important mitigation strategy against climate change

The Miracle Water Village

Directors- Rintu Thomas & Sushmit Ghosh

The film focuses lauds the efforts of the villagers of Hiware Bazar for recharging their village’s groundwater reserves. The village received the National Water Award and is also being studied by the World Water Forum. The films explore the techniques employed explaining how these methods can be replicated by other regions facing water shortages.

  3. There is a hall called Durbar Hall inside Casino Hotel….but i guess this information is a bit too late :(
