The kochietes who suffers daily while driving through the Kundanoor Junction – Tripunithura – Bodimettu – Madurai highway aka NH 49 has to suffer only for few more days, the countdown has begun. The PWD (NH wing) has approved to renovate the NH 49 into a 10 metered two lane highway.
The part of the highway in which the kochietes tends to suffer begins from the NH bypass in kochi and ends at Bodimettu in Tamilnadu. The work for the upgradation of NH 49 has already begun by acquiring sufficient land so that it could be widened into a two lane highway as the first step. There are also many proposed upgradations that includes several bypasses at Tripunithura, Muvattupuzha and Kothamangalam to speed up the traffic movements in these congested towns. A 1.6 km long elevated highway would be built linking the Andhakaran Thodu and the approach road to the new bridge built parallel to the iron bridge in Tripunithura due to excessive congestion by hundreds of tippers and tanker lorries that rolls through the town daily. The formal sanction to begin the work is not given by the government following which the potholes are turning worse due to rains. It seems that the kochietes will have to suffer until the rains take a break .
