Chavara Movie Circle is organising a film festival with the theme ‘music of resistance’. Two films will be screened in this one day movie festival. Two films which has a theme of making  a difference in the society through music.

The first film Sleepwalking Through the Mekong is about the tour of Cambodia by Los Angeles-based Khmer rock band Dengue Fever during the Water Festival 2005. The tour is a sort of homecoming for its lead singer Chhom Nimol.

The second film Afghan Star is about the return of music to war-torn terrain of Afghanistan – after the Taliban regime. The film records the return, after 30 years of war and Taliban rule, as people pick up mobile phones to vote for their favourite contestants, as people compete for glory and record deals.

The films will be screened at Chavara public library hall today at 3.30 p.m.
