Maritime University campus coming up in Kochi
Looking for a graduate course related to shipping? Regional campus of Indian Maritime University (IMU) offering the same, coming up at Cochin Port! This campus will be the fourth centre of the IMU with its headquarters in Chennai. The vice-chancellor of the University, P Vijayan visited the site for setting up the campus here in Kochi on Saturday. Cochin Port Trust board will also consider the allotment of 10 acres of land in Willingdon Island for setting up the campus. Other campuses are at the Vishakhapatanam, Kolkata and Mumbai Ports.
IMU offers a BTech (naval architecture) course, a BSc in nautical science to prepare cadets for taking up deck officer jobs in the shipping sector, a BE marine engineering course, and an MBA in port and shipping management and international transportation and port management. Courses will commence by September 1, 2009. Workshop, fire station and hospital will be made available to the university for training purposes. This is the first university to start graduate courses in shipping in Kerala. It will also train cadets for job opportunities in the international maritime sector.
