La Cochin – Music of Friendship
When 25 friends from 12 colleges in the city decided to record a music album on friendship, ‘La Cochin’ was born. And it took three years for their musical dream to materialise.
“When we joined different colleges after school, we missed each other and our school life. That’s when we thought of a music album,’’ says Dijo Jose Antony, music director and lyricist. The album has not just amateurs but also wellknow names in the music industry.
Vineeth Srinivasan, Vidhu Prathap, Franco and ‘Little Master’ fame Master Ummar have sung for the album with Dijo making his musical debut. “I used to pen a few lines and then play it for my friends who gave me feedback. And I made changes accordingly,” says Dijo, fourth year student of FISAT engineering college.
He says the credit for the eight song album goes to each of his 25 friends who gave financial assistance to bring out the album. “This is a dedication to friendship,’’ he says.
A product of Bhavan’s, Girinagar, Dijo says his parents and schoolmates are his pillars of strength. “In one music video, ‘Ninne’, you can see some of my friends,’’ says Dijo.
Ninne is a romantic song. “When we did a market survey we found that romantic songs have a good market,’’ he says.
Most of the locales in the album are in Munnar and in different parts of Kochi. It was filmed by Sarang brothers, Srijith and Sujith of ‘Malayalee’ and ‘Coffee@MG Road’ fame.
Dijo says that they managed to bring out the album without disrupting their studies. “We have learnt the importance of original music. And now we know how difficult it is to produce a music album.” “A lot of time, effort and money go into it. Without realising all this everybody downloads music from the net for free, which is unfair,’’ says Dijo.
Dijo’s and his friends’ dream will be complete when the video release of one of the songs in the album is done by music director Alphons Afzal of movie ‘Calendar’ fame on Monday.
It will be released under the banner of Rabbit Hat Productions.
