‘Kayaloram’ food fest @ Travancore Court Hotel, Kochi
Onam to me is all about delicious Kerala food. And so I came upon a food fest happening at Travancore Court Hotel named as ‘Kayaloram’ food fest. I stepped into ‘The East India Company’- it’s the name of the restaurant at the Travancore Court and got to see many smiling bearers in traditional jubba mundu. The seventies Malayalam music and the décor in ‘panambu’ and ‘kuruthola’ complete the picture. The aroma of the piping hot dishes was soothing enough to make me drool in anticipation.
For true lovers of Kerala food which includes me too, you’ll get to taste a delectable spread from kallummakkaya coconut roast and karimeen pollichathu to chutta aattirachi salad and pappaya payasam. What more do you need!! From soups and salads to the desserts, there is a touch of Kerala. The buffet is priced at Rs. 350 plus taxes for the festival. Its worth having it! The dishes are all traditional, but innovative too, Njandu Puliyilakkootam is one such dish, cooked with tamarind leaf. Vegetarians too can have their fill. The best part of the festival is that the menu is different each day. The exotic range of salads which are a blend of the continental and Kerala cuisines, is a unique feature of the festival. If you don’t mind a bit of sugary sweetness, you can end it all with a serving of delicious dessert! I enjoyed my day out here. Lets hear from the rest of Kochi about it!
