Kashi Art Café at Fort Cochin

Kashi Art Café located on Burgher Street in Fort Cochin is one of my favorite hang out. Established in 1997, Kashi Art Café is not just a café but offers a meeting point for the art lovers. The gallery space has on display art pieces by established as well as newer artists which keep changing every fortnight.

The set up here is traditional yet modern which gives it a kind of warm touch. The breakfast is fixed but has different items each day of the week. I simply love their French toast with honey and fresh breads. Their lunch is fixed too. It’s wholesome with a soup, bread or quiche and salad. Absolutely delicious. Indian palettes might find the food a bit bland but black pepper can mostly do the trick.

Their homemade cakes are a kill. Forget about the calories, it’s a must eat. If you are planning to drop in for a cup of coffee, that’s possible too. They have on their menu beverages suited for taste buds of Indians as well as Europeans and other tourists. They don’t serve / sell water in plastic bottles, only boiled water kept in glass bottles are available. Yes, one can fill up ones canteen for free too.

The Café is open 7 days a week from 8:30 am till 7:30 pm. It’s quite a popular joint amongst the tourists so much so; I often end up with a feeling that it’s me who is traveling in a different country and not vice versa! It’s almost like being in a beach café in Goa!! That also explains why their menu is little bland.

I frequent it quite often, more so on weekends because nothing beats a relaxed and lazy brunch as you read your favorite book. But, beware for those who think that they can just about walk in and get a table on a Sunday morning, but, you can always spend the time waiting going through the latest exhibits!!
