The foundation stone was laid for the mobility hub at Vytilla, Kochi,  by Honourable Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan. The project, situated on a 25 acre plot is estimated to cost around 121 crore. The project aims to resolve a good amount of  commuting confusion  in the city by creating a bus terminal, parking bays for private vehicles and autos, and other amenities in a single region.

The mobility hub project was prepared for CII-Kerala by the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR). Under this, different modes of transport like roadways, railways and waterways would be integrated.  Kaniampuzha Road, allied with the Sea Port-Airport Road will also be widened.

Possibly, the bus bay will be allocated in two floors for the buses, ie,  passengers can get in/out at the basement, and the buses will be  parked in the first floor. This would definitely reduce the traffic.  An air-conditioned tube too has been planned, to connect the terminal to the western side of Vytilla junction. The tenders for the concerned project will be floated and the concerned authorities hope that the first phase of the project be completed by February 2011.

surely this project will also have the fate of other projects like kochi metro rail, and smart city..this will be remain only as a dream……

  2. @Nikhil,

Vytilla mobility hub can be a possibility for the city as everyone recognizes the need to move the bus stands outside the city so that the city does not get congested in peak hours.

I am yet to see any protests against this project unlike the kochi metro rail and others.
