E Sreedharan says no to private participation in Kochi Metro

Delhi metro project chairman E Sreedharan during a discussion held with Kerala Food minister K.V Thomas   said that private participation for implementing Metro rail in Kochi will not be practical. He said that private companies may be unwilling to come forward. He also urged to go forward with the efforts of previous government to implement project under public sector, through which the construction can be started within 2 months itself.

Sreedharan is also of the opinion that guidelines offered by the planning commission to include private participation may delay the project and hence said that it is better to overcome their opinions  with some added political pressure.

He also put forward a formula for Central-State Participation for the project, which includes 25 % of the funds derived from State and Central governments each and rest 50% either by a consortium of banks or by Japanese help.  At the end of the discussion  Sri. K.V Thomas assured that everything will be done from the part of the state government to make Metro rail in Kochi a reality as soon as possible.
