‘Cyber Safe-2009′ – Cops to keep pace with technology
National seminar ‘Cyber Safe-2009’ was inaugurated by DGP Jacob Punnoose here on Thursday. The seminar aims at increasing the awareness of police officials on cyber crimes and also to equip themselves to deal with the changing scenario of cyber crimes. The three-day seminar will feature technical papers by cyber crime experts and a session on public awareness. The seminar will end on Saturday. DGP Jacob Punnoose said “a police officer who does not know how to use computer will be a useless officer in the near future. Policemen who refuse to change their outlook will become outdated in this technological era. The police must change its attitude and behaviour with the public. The developments taking place in technology is forcing the police to change.”
In today’s world, anyone from anywhere can commit crime in the cyber world without any jurisdictional boundaries. Crimes are changing rapidly both in nature and character and so police should be aware of technological development to deal with cyber crimes. The cyber wing of the State will also be upgraded and necessary steps are being taken to improve the facilities at the cyber police station. Lets hope this would lessen cyber crimes in the State.
