Just imagine even after ten years of its inception, Cochin University College of Engineering Kuttanad (a.k.a CUCEK) does not have the basic infrastructure facilities like classrooms and laboratories! What are the authorities doing? Filling up their pockets? The work of five-storey building supposing to have classes and laboratories seems no progress due to the pending bills. There are no professors or assistant professors. There are 100 teachers on the rolls but most of them are on leave or pursuing higher studies. The students have to be satisfied with guest lecturers and contract teachers. This has made the situation even worse. There are no proper hostel facilities too. North Indian students are staying in Alappuzha and Changanassery due to the absence of hostels. So those who are planning to take graduation from CUCEK, be aware of these facts.
The Parent Teachers Association (PTA) of CUCEK will be coming up with an open protest against the authorities for neglecting the college. They have already accused the authorities for turning away from college’s problems. Lets hope the protest would become an eye-opener for the authorities. Cochin University is aiming to be the ‘University with Potential for Excellence’, will it be successful? Well, this will remain as a question until the problems are met.
