Cochin to become a tobacco free tourism destination
No more tobacco in Cochin. Cochin is all set to become the first tobacco free tourism destination in the country by the end of June 2011. As part of achieving this great milestone in the history of the city, Special workshops will be held for officials, law enforcers, political and social leaders, officials in charge of public places, institutions, and local clubs and health activists.
Special workshops for officials, law enforcers, political and social leaders, officials in charge of public places, institutions, local clubs and health activists will be conducted.
There will be volunteers who will be entrusted to educate 500 persons and there will be one spokesperson for every 5,000 people. The volunteers and spokespersons will be from among the public, including lawyers, government officials, administrators, political leaders, journalists and corporate representatives. This is to equip them to review the abuse of tobacco advertisement control rules.
Squads will be formed to ensure implementation of the law and an action plan will be formulated to empower law enforcers and others to monitor violation of the law.
