JUS’ JAMM is a nostalgic musical night brought together by a band of musicians to express their love for music especially the classic rocks and pops from the 60s, 70s and 80s. The band will belt out all the popular favorites ranging from Eagles, Beatles, Clapton, Santana to whichever you name. JUS’ JAMM is on February 3^rd, 7pm at JTPac, Cochin. JUS’ JAMM is a collaboration of musicians from some of the leading bands in Kerala – Kalinga, Wrenz United and The Illusion merging to bring out the spirit from the oldies to their public performance. If you are a power boating enthusiast or a racing freak, then the Powerboat Rally 2012 is exclusively here for you. The Offshore Sailing Club (OSC) of the Southern Naval Command will be hosting the Powerboat Rally 2012 on February 5^th, at Kochi International Marina here in Cochin. This amazing event is a Yachting Association of India initiative. This year the Powerboat Rally will be conducted in two categories – boats below 100 hp and boats above 100 hp.

This challenging event will be similar to that of checkpoint rallies involved in car racing involving high speed helming, challenging navigation and tricky routes. The boats will be required to report at a number of check posts within a given timeframe by maintaining an average high speed. This rally is not about the speed in which you navigate, it’s all about the precision and accuracy of your navigation. The track length of this rally will be about 46 kilometers through the scenic backwaters and will have routes arranged close to the Marine Drive, Fort Kochi and other popular areas where people will get to watch the rally.

GOAL 2012 strikes back in Cochin, and its bigger and better this time. Football crazy Cochin will see spirited and talented young bloods from 16 teams in action fighting to capture the glory of Goal 2012 for two amazing weeks. This event is an initiative taken by The New Indian Express Group with a vision to raise young talented youth power to the heights of international football. The event is to be held from 16^th January i.e. on Monday till 29^th January on a league-cum-knock-out basis at Maharaja’s College Ground. To keep a breath-holding tough competition, Goal 2012 has put its best foot forward with prize money of Rs 1 lakh and the champion’s crown for the winning team and Rs 50000 for the runner-up. In addition to this huge prize money there will be cash incentives for the best players in various categories. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr.Ajay Maken will kick off the tournament at 2:15 pm on Monday. Prior to the inauguration, the theme song of Goal 2012 will be released at the Casino Hotel.

16 teams would be divided into four groups and the best among these four groups will enter the semi finals. There will be two matches on each day; the first at 2:15 pm and the next at 4:30 pm. The entry to the tournament will be free. Be there to feel the heat because its more than just a game.

Cochin Club in association with Team Sam Academy will be organizing ‘Board Games’, a learn and play coaching camp. This camp will be held on 14^th and 15^th January respectively.  This camp is organized to encourage children to participate and learn various indoor games.

The training materials will be provided for all and the fee per person for each two and a half hour program is Rs 200/-. 12 of the club members can participate this camp for free. The program will start at 10:30 am. The programs of the camp are scheduled as:

Ace actress Shobana Chandrakumar is back to JTPac with her masterpiece ‘Krishna-the man and his philosophy’; and why he is above man understands. The story puts an insight on the belief that whenever righteousness fails and adharma rears its ugly head, the supreme releases himself in the world as Krishna. This is Shobana’s latest creation combining element s of classical, folk and film dance to portray the story and teachings of the divine hero ‘Krishna’.

Krishna in this production will be seen doing different roles, his mother Devika pleads with him to come back to Mathura and that was one promise he had to keep. He manages to motivate his brethren, the Yadavas princes to mend their warring and bickering ways and to opt for a more disciplined way of life winning brides in his inimitable fashion along the way.

Oscar winning Resul pookutty is the sound designer of this grand musical show. Shobana will be starring as Krishna along with 22 talented students from her dance institute Kalarpana. This 2 hour show will be like a magical night at JTPac  as many well known celebrities  have lent their voices to the production including Surya (Arjun’s voice), Shabana Azmi (Gandhari’s voice), Prabhu (voice for Bhima and Nandan), Radhika (Devaki’s voice), Konkana Sen (voice for Radha) and Nandita das (draupadi’s voice).

The month of November will be visual treat for all the ardent fans of the classical art forms of India. Here in our very own Kochi, we have the Dharani Kalotsava 2011 from the 1st to 5th November. This is the tenth edition of the annual festival organized by Society Dharani.

Among the various performances at show, you would get a chance to see Vyjayanthimala Bali, yesteryears actress of Bollywood who also belongs to the Travancore Royal family. This is just one of the attractions . The five day festival will host a number of prominent artistes performing various genres of dance and music ranging from Bharatnatyam to Mohiniattam to Kuchipudi. The performance begins at 6. 45 p.m. You will also have performances of Pt. Sugato Bhaduri, Lavanya Ananth, Anita Ratnam, Nityasree Mahadevan for the Kalotsav. You can witness Shyamala Surendran performing Mohiniyattam on the final day of the fest.
